Question: Case Project: “Mom And Dad” Three months have passed. You got a call at 10 pm from your mother. She says your father is ill and can’t move his arms. She wants to know what to do. You tell her to call 911 and you will be right over. Your father has had a stroke and is taken to the hospital. He has paralysis of his right side. The doctors suggest surgery to clear additional blockages and prevent further damage. Also, he will need to undergo rehabilitation to recover from the current attack. Your mother is upset and confused. She wants to know what is wrong and when your Dad can come home. Your father stays at the hospital for two weeks and now needs rehabilitation. He still cannot get out of bed on his own and says he can’t feed himself. You have been taking your mother to the hospital each day for this time and your sister and brother came to see your father for two days right after he was hospitalized. They said he looked like he was improving and would be glad when he got back home again. Last night your brother called and you had to tell him Dad wasn’t able to go home yet. Your brother said “Well what are you going to do? Where will he go and What happens to Mom?” Now what? Answer: Case Project The case project on Mom and Dad reveals the situation of the father being hospitalized after having a probable heart attack. The brother asked the narrator regarding the current situation of their father. After the surgery was over, Dad needs to spend some more time in the hospital since he needs to undergo rehabilitation for recovering from the current attack. The rehabilitation along with physiotherapy is essential for retaining the normal physical functions of their father. The father would stay in the hospital for continuing further treatment. However, after consulting with his doctor, if needed, he would be shifted to another physical rehabilitation for better recovery. The father may also be shifted to another physical therapy institute where he can be given personalized care. Dad should be given tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) that would increase his chances of recovery. He should be given complete set of medicines as well as rest based upon his current medical condition. Mom would be going through a vital stage of psychological trauma and she should also go through counseling sessions. She has to act as strong pillars of support for her husband and needs to take good care of him. It is obvious that mother would also be frustrated and sad by looking at the condition of her husband. But this is the time she needs to be the backbone of the family and should monitor the health status of his husband closely. The son and daughters should take care of the medical condition of the father and should also try to provide emotional support to their mother. The mother should also be given professional counseling, which would help her to cope with the present situation. The psychological connection between father and mother should be restored by their offspring and the same should be continued throughout the ill health condition of their father.
