What is your rationale of your opinion? 3. What are potential challenges of your perspective? Answer 1. The e-cigarette is an electronic device, which simulates the feeling of cigarette smoking. The device heats a liquid, which produces vapor made up of glycol, glycerine, propylene, and nicotine. E-cigarettes are safer than tobacco cigarettes. They can help tobacco smokers quit smoking. Furthermore, children can start smoking after using them. However, they can lead to the nicotine addiction.1 The e-cigarette can be regarded as a medicinal product because it regulates nicotine-containing products. Furthermore, it helps tobacco smokers break dependence on nicotine from tobacco.1 2. E-cigarettes have a substantial public health impact. A product that helps in the cessation of smoking is a medicinal product. Furthermore, health professionals and consumers need security on the knowledge that they are buying a product which contains what it says to have. Therefore, it should meet the acceptable standards of quality, safety, and consistency. Also, they are subject to strong regulations and marketing authorizations. 2(p47) 3. The regulation of e-cigarettes as medicinal products obliges them to undergo rules to assess their safety and efficacy. Consequently, this will have an economic impact on the manufacturers of these products hence push an important product off the market. However, such regulation will might make e-cigarettes more widely available. It means that e-cigarettes will be sold in general outlets such as supermarkets where will be supported by appropriate advertising and clear information for its users. 1(p6) It is feared that the regulation of e-cigarettes as medicinal products would see the return of people into tobacco smoking, which will see a rise in death rates caused by smoking.
