HLSC110 Beginning Professional Practice Questions To successfully complete this assessment task, you are required to answer the following questions: 1. Briefly introduce the concept of inter-professional practice and why it is integral for quality health outcomes 2. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of selected healthcare team members; 3. Discuss the use of inter-professional communication in health care. Answers 1. Interprofessional Practice In Health Care In health care a health care provider needs to use the interprofessional practice skills because they interact with people of different professions, beliefs, and age. For instance, a health care provider interacts with people of their profession, different professions, families and patients as well. To do this, a health care professional should respect and trust team members, use a good language to address patients and health care professionals and know that each team member has a crucial role to play in the success of health care (Gould et al., 2015). It is crucial to have an understanding that when health care professionals work in an interprofessional way, they achieve similar goals and hence they solve many problems in a short time. By properly utilizing their skills, these health care providers can coordinate their skills for the end benefit of providing patients with quality healthcare. It is important to note that interprofessional collaboration also provides a feeling of job satisfaction among the health care providers. This practice offers an approach to making decisions in a coordinated way concerning the health and social care in health settings. According to Reeves et al., (2013), communication also becomes important in order to share skills and ideas. As a result, the health care leaders become accountable, responsible and cooperative. For such a collaborative working to be achieved, then professional cultures of each health care provider should be able to match by obtaining more skills to improve the quality of care to the patients. For such an effective interprofessional practice to be successful, the health care providers should be able to have autonomy, be open in communication and understand that their skills are very important to the team. This would rather call for health care to be trained and educated on working as an interprofessional team in order to offer quality health care to the patients and hence achieve the health care objectives. 2. Role Of Selected Health Care Professionals Nurses- the nurses are considered to be the center or the core team in health care. They are involved in the provision of health care to the patients as well as their families. They exist as medication, staff and director nurses in units. In other cases, it is common to find that nurses change shifts so that the patients are taken care of at any given time especially for nurses who have been assigned to patients to offer care on a daily basis (Pesut et al., 2015).  Depending on their expertise, the duties of the nurses are varied in nature, all which depends on the medical units that they work in. in the modern world, many hospitals employ nurses who are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Association, a professional body. Pharmacists- these are experts in medication and they ensure that there is a safe delivery of drugs to the patients. The overall goal of pharmacists is to make sure that the patients reap maximum benefits from medicine. The pharmacists are required to be registered with a certain professional body before being hired. In some cases, a pharmacist works in close association with the patients so that when they leave the hospital, they can be able to move to another step of health care. This prevents further duplication of drugs which could cause overdose and other serious side effects to the patients. The pharmacists thus are able to give advice on the drugs which can be used together and those that cannot. Pharmacists can either work in a hospital set up or in a drug store whereby they are allowed in reviewing the medical care of a patient. Doctors- The doctors in a hospital are involved in several roles such as examination, diagnosis and offering treatment to the patients. The doctors in most cases handle the patients who have been referred to them by the General practitioners. The doctors in hospitals work in the medical wards and outpatient clinic setups so as to treat and manage diseases (Chapman et al., 2013) the doctors exist in several specialties like surgery, pediatrics, general medicine and gynecology among others. The doctors are also involved in the teaching of young doctors and medical students. 3. Interprofessional Communication In Health Care Communication among health care providers plays a very great role to the success of the patients. Initially, the communication training for health care professionals was purposely for them and the patients (Liaw et al., 2014). However, there has been a growing need to enhance communication among all the professions in health care. When there is no proper communication, there likely to be errors in service delivery. An effective interprofessional communication should thus be open and collaborative in manner. This communication is basically built upon trust among healthcare providers, patients, and their families (Goodwin, 2015). Although some information may be overlapping, other information is separate. Interprofessional communication then requires effective listening, sharing out information and respecting each discipline as well as the opinions of other professionals. References Chapman, E.
