Question: Telehealth is a project introduced to improve access to quality healthcare in rural public hospital or health service. Answer: 1. Problem Telehealth is a project that is introduced in order to improve the access to the healthcare services by the rural public. The rural public due to their geographical location often fails to receive proper health facilities and health related processes such as education. This is because it is difficult for the physicians to travel through a considerably larger distance to see a patient and therefore, they do not show much interest in it as well (Weinstein et al. 2014). One of the major reasons for this is the large amount of time that is required to be dedicated by the doctors in order to impart proper treatment to the patients in the rural areas. This results in people of the rural areas not getting proper facilities of education and health care services, which are very essential. Therefore, this project is undertaken in order to eliminate the barriers of time, distance and cost in delivery of appropriate healthcare services and proper educational support (Sabesan et al. 2014). The capabilities and benefits of this system are discussed in the following sections. 2. Capabilities The system is to be designed in order to provide an alternative to the face to face way of providing the healthcare services, education and the professional advices that is otherwise difficult in rural areas due to the geographical constraint. The project Telehealth is capable of removing the barriers of time, distance and cost that are experienced by the health professionals and the consumers in imparting and receiving certain services. The system if implemented properly is capable of improving the patient outcomes by driving a greater efficiency in the way of delivering a quality health services across the state. This system is to be built with an objective of improving the patient outcomes by delivering quality health services across the state by making use of technological advancements (Scott and Mars 2015). This system will be capable of displaying information to the patient and recommend medicines according to their illness. 3. Benefits The benefits of this project are as follows- Telehealth is a cost effective approach of facing the challenges by accessing the health care needs of the patients and directing them to the appropriate level of care. This would benefit the patient of rural areas in receiving proper health services. It further provides flexibility to the healthcare providers in reaching a larger group of people irrespective of their geographical location. A physician, who although is geographically remote can provide primary care consultations to the patients in need. It further helps in reducing the transit burden of the patients of rural areas who might have reduced mobility and limited transportation. Telehealth is capable of uncovering new insights about the patients by allowing the physicians to interact with the patients and observe them without any technical barriers. The patients of the rural areas would no longer have to travel a large distance in order to receive treatments.
