Social Emotional Financial Physical Psychological Answer: Social Impacts Type 2 diabetes can affect the relationship of the affected person as much as it can change his/her physical activity and eating habits (Fung & Teicholz, 2018). Following a strict diet especially on social occasions and situation can be challenging to the affected person. The person also has to refrain from certain group activities because he /she has to maintain or monitor his/her blood sugar, which can lead to group isolation or stigmatization. Emotional Impacts Type 2 diabetes may interfere with the feelings of the affected person. Unstable and low blood sugar may cause the person to be impatient, restless, anxious, angry and irrational among other effects (Codario, 2005). These emotions affect the person’s partner and family members, which leads to more unhappiness, and stress at an individual level. The person may feel guilty which can lead to erosion of self-confidence, which may interfere with the person’s activity level. Financial Impacts Diabetes type 2 may have a significant impact on the affected person’s finances especially if he/she does not have good coverage of healthcare. The person has to incur many expenses on the other drugs, extra medical tests, extra test strips and other aspects of hospice care, home care, post-op care, and intensive care. Type 2 diabetes also can hinder with the person’s ability to earn a living, which may jeopardize the affected person’s present and future security regarding finance. Physical Impacts `Type 2 diabetes may lead to other severe complications on the affected person in case it is not intervened early. It can lead to high blood pressure, gum disease, stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, amputation, blindness and other serious complications (Zierath & Hawley, 2008). The family can support the affected the affected person by financial support to help cover medical expenses. The affected person can also develop memory fog, weight gain, issues of fatigue, eyesight problems and foot numbness if early intervention is not taken. Psychological Impacts The affected person may experience denial especially when he/she is first diagnosed. This comes because of a person fear how it will affect their life. The diagnosis can induce fear causing poor choices lifestyle and poor intake of diet. The affected person can develop depression because of low serotonin levels (Kuball, 2018). Family members can help the affected person by providing professional counselling and assistance to curb the effects of depression. The person can also develop embarrassment.
