Answer: A very new type of disease has been highlighted in the news which is harming the people of the Bennington County as well as also in Vermont. A large number of diseases have been found to be occurring in large number of people which are lyme disease and anaplasmosis. Experts have recognized that the diseases are mainly occurring due to the presence of huge number of ticks in this region and they are acting as the main organism for the different disorders. Of the 2000 ticks tested by Vermont, half is found to be carrying pathogens for lyme disease and reported 200 cases over 100000 in population of Bennington county (“Bennington top in tick borne illness”, 2017). The spread of the disease as reported by the researchers are taking place from the coastal areas of New England are undergoing a northern trend of expansion. As Bennington county is the southernmost region, therefore it has become more vulnerable to the disease and is expected to spread in other regions as well which is source of concern. If one looks over the topic about how this ticks are acting as vectors, it can be said that the region has large number of ticks which are being infected by different pathogens. Mainly deer and white mice are the main contributors who are carrying on the cycle. Epidemiologists are still working and suggest that it requires more researches as other factors are involved into it. Babesiosis is another such disease that is affecting Massachusetts and Coonecticut and their rates are also found to be increasing in different neighboring areas as well. Windham county is also at higher risk for developing such infectious disease. It is mainly caused by an unknown parasite that is known to target the red cells and has a treatment different from lyme and anaplasmosis. Borrelia miyamotoi has been yet another such disease. Black legged ticks also contain another disorder which is mainly caused by powassan virus. They are found to be mainly affecting the brain through inflammation (“Bennington top in tick borne illness”, 2017). This is of personal concern as many researchers state that the diseases caused by them are such that their symptoms often tend to show similar symptoms and therefore is often becomes difficult to diagnose (de la Fuente et al., 2016). The laboratory in the state is quite proud of their panel which has helped them to determine the different diseases respectively and are the only ones working on borrelia miyamotoi. As the disease does not kill people, spreading awareness have become very difficult. However it had been surprising to see that people in the regions are fearful in getting out of their homes and are beginning to understand that prevention is really very necessary in the fields. However in order to make people safe and aware about how to help them to overcome their fear, the Vermont Department of Health had created an online portal which would be helping them in making people take precautions. Therefore from the entire discussion above, I am quite astonished to see that mosquitoes which once created harmful diseases have no longer in the position and the place has been taken by ticks. Therefore it is extremely important for the government to take an active control of the situation and prevent the spreading of disease by controlling the population of ticks. I have my paternal grandparents who are staying in the county and they have discussed the matter with us. They are afraud if coming out of their houses and had been mostly satying indoors. This had astonished me because from the early childhood, we are reading about different vectors that acrry diseases but never considered ticks to be so dangerous.
